I totally understand your concerns about the aesthetic appearance of your skin appearance and
dark circles under your eyes.
In order to give you the best medication to help you reduce these dark circles we must understand the possible cause.
1- Allergies can cause dark circles. if you feel your eyes are itching this can be a clue to this case. Allergies happen mostly during the allergy season and might sometimes be due to certain food. If this applies to you, you should prevent any contact with a known allergen and take antihistamine such as aerius
2- Anemia: if you are a female with heavy menses, you might have anemia which will make your dark circles worse. In this case i highly recommend you to do a
complete blood count CBC, and if anemia is confirmed you should start on iron supplementation on one hand, and decrease your menses if they are heavy on the other hand mainly by using
Oral contraceptive pills (OCPs)
3- hyperpigmentation:
melanin deposition might sometimes be higher in this area.
Ointments for dark circles containing
hydroquinone are effective measures to a certain extent to decrease the darker appearance of the skin
4- Depressed skin : some patients lack sometimes fat tissue under the eyes making them look older and giving this area a dark appearance. if you look to the area under your eyes and you find as if there is missing fat layer (depressed skin compared to the jaw line) then you will benefit a lot from
hyaluronic acid injections to this area (juvaderm for example).
Regarding the color of your face skin, the following treatment are found to be the most effective in the treatment of such a case:
1- Hydorquinone 4% (such as eldoquin forte) to be used before sleeping. this will stop the production of melanin by melanocytes responsible for the dark appearance of the skin.
2- Effective sunscreen against UV light (30+) is also very important to be used in the morning before going out.
together they will decrease the pigmentation of the skin, but they must be used regularly, and to start seeing results you need around 2 weeks after starting treatment.
Best Regards
