Hi,

Breathing interruptions, snoring and daytime sleepiness are typical for sleep apnea. However, it is advisable to confirm the diagnosis with a test called polysomnography. Once it is confirmed the first measure would be to address predisposing factors.

Overweight is such a factor so weight loss should be attempted if he is obese. Also, a check for obstruction of air passage from issues such as polyps, cysts etc., should be done and if possible removed. If those measures have failed then sleeping aid through the use of a CPAP machine during sleep is prescribed, a mask connected to a machine, which is worn during sleep and keeps a positive pressure in the airways preventing them from closing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
