How Can Slimy Menstrual Periods Be Treated?

Hi, I have a concern about my menstrual period. I am 38 years old and my menstrual period is abnorma. It looks like bloody slime. In all of my years of having a period, when I used the restroom, the toilet water would be red. But now, the slime is seperated from the water. The color of the water doesn't change all you see is red slime. I don't understand why this is. I do suffer from uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts. Don't know if that could be the reason why or if it's because by me being older if my period is changing.
