How Can Sore Throat And Ulcer On Tongue Be Treated?

I have sore throat and ulcer on my tongue more than a week. I have sulfamethoxazole (bactrim) prescribed for me in November 2016. I have not used them because my symptoms have gone then without this medication. Can I use the medication right now? Will be it useful?

Hai, welcome to HCM,
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim is a prescription medication used to treat bacterial infections of the urinary tract, lungs, intestines, and ears. Sulfamethoxazole is usually prediscribed by doctor. So, You should not take the drug before consultation with your doctor.
To reduce your symptoms, what you can do at home is:
- Consumption of warm drinks and soft foods
- Avoid smoking or inhaling cigarette smoke
- Gargle with salt water or antiseptic mouthwash
- Increase consumption of drinking water
- You can suck on ice cubes or throat lozenges
- Avoid drinks that are too hot or too cold because they can cause irritation
- Get enough rest, including limiting talk for a while
- Create a comfortable air so it is not too dry and triggers irritation in the throat.
- Sip the candy lozenges or ordinary candy to increase the production of saliva prevention of dry throat
- Avoid substances that trigger irritation, such as cigarette smoke.

Hope this information will be useful for you and hope you get better soon.
