Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Speech Impairment In A Toddler Be Treated?
my son is three and is not speakining yet. he will attempt some sounds. but it sounds like its coming through his nose. he wont move his tongue off the roof of his mouth to try. weve tried speech therapy and all they did was blow bubbles for 30 minutes a day one day a week. what do I do.
It is important to know why your son's speech is delayed in order to know the best way to help him.
Causes include: *Delayed maturation in which the mother, father, of sibling was late learning to speak
*Deafness -autism -mental deficiency
*Malfunction of areas in brain responsible for speech development Do not stop talking to him. Speak and sing as much as you like. You need to take him to his primary care physician who may refer you to a behavioral developmental pediatrician to begin his evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.Arnold Zedd,
Pediatrician
