How Can Spinal Stenosis Be Treated?

My son has spinal stenois L5 with the chart showing he is at level 5 (the worse) they want to do a epidural shot then surgery. We are so scared with everyone saying dont do it- he will wind up in worse condition. They say everyone who has back surgery winds up worse off.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Spinal surgery always got a risk of serious complications including weakness and permanent disability. However, this has happened only in few cases and results will be good if done in a good reputed center. If you delay the surgery, then the stenosis will worsen with time and cause serious complications. So I suggest you to consult with a spine specialist and get the surgery done for your son.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
