Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My name is Ralph. This Thursday I am going to have an epidural for my Spinal Stenosis, because I have 3 pinched nerves in my lower back. What my question is what kind/name of the medication they may use in the needle used to anesthetize the nerve or nerves and what is the average time when I will feel free of the pain and how long can it be before I might have to have another epidural?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, spinal blocks can last from few months to years depending upon the type of drug however for permanent solution neurosurgery and spine surgery can be helpful and that may include nerve entrapment release as well replacement of vertebral bodies if needed but depend upon result of spine scans. Meanwhile supplements for calcium and vitamin D3 should be continued to avoid further spine collapse secondary to soft bones causing the same. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Regards
