How Can Sticky Cough With Breathlessness And Chest Cramping Be Treated?

From past 3 months I have clean, white but sticky cough which comes out when I deep breath & sometimes I feel breathless. My blood test for any allergies has come normal, my chest x-rays are normal as well as my Pulmonary test results are normal. I have no fever, enlarge lymphs or fatigue at all. When I start feeling breathless I feel my chest cramped mostly on the left side or sometimes both sides & yesterday night when all this was happening I even felt like vomiting & only sticky, white cough dame out. Is there any medicine for me to get rid of this breathlessness & cough?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

3 months is a long time to suffer from coughing out white mucus without any other symptoms other than feeling tightness in chest, X-ray and pulmonary function tests being normal.
I would think of the following in such a situation:
- excessive mucus production can be due to irritation to the respiratory tract with something like fumes, dust, pollen, anything for that matter which can be identified by you alone.
- Keen observation of the instigating and enhancing factors.
- Take an opinion of a Pulmonologist.
- May need a short course of oral steroids in tapering doses.
- Antihistamine.
- Avoidance of of instigating and enhancing factors.
- Wet dusting in office and home.
- Repair the home to stop water leakage to avoid the developement of molds and mildew.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
