How Can Strep Throat And Swollen Tonsils Be Treated?
My son was diagnosed with strep throat on Saturday. He has been on the antibiotics since then. Tonight he seems worse and his tonsils (I think that is what they are hanging down) are more swollen now then they were on Saturday. Is it cause for alarm, something else or do i need to take him back to the doctor tomorrow?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
No, continue the antibiotics because usually there will be a hyper response to the antibiotics and strep virus do interact causing the release of many mediators.
If that is the case then it causes these symptoms. Usually, it happens with all but the response varies from person to person. This hyper response will be subsided soon when all the bacteria have been killed and then he will become symptom-free.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
