How Can Swelling And Bruising On The Knee Due To A Sprain Be Treated?

I SPRAINED MY ANKE THEN FELL ON MY KNEE I HAVE SEVERE PAIN IN THE INSIDE(ACL)OF MY KNEE AND RIGHT BELOW FRONT KNEE CAP. MY SKIN HAS TURNED TO LOOK BUISED BLACK AND BLUE. MY LEG IS SWELLING UP, IM TAKING REAFEN AND NABUETOME TO KEEP SWELLING DOWN SOME. I HAVE TYPE 2 DIABETIC. TAKING METFORMIN FOR THAT.

Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
From the description you have given it looks like there have been subcutaneous hematoma or contusion as we call it. It might have formed in the joint.
If the swelling is big enough that you are not able to move your joint or very painful then I might suggest you to consult an orthopaedic surgeon as it might need aspiration of the blood from the place.
If the pain is bearable and swelling is not too much then what you are doing will be helpful. Apply ice twice thruce a day to help faster absorption of blood from the joint.
Take ibuprofen tablet to keep pain and inflammation under control.
It will take 10 to 15 days to get better. Give proper rest to ankle joint as sprain should be immobile to heal faster.
