How Can Swelling And Injury On The Face Be Treated?

My 89 year old mother in law fell 16 days ago. She cut her forehead above her left eye, it was very swollen (size of an golf ball), and she is very bruised on her face, neck, left arm and left hip. Amazingly she did not break any bones. She went to emergency room and they stitched her up, did a CT and had her in ICU for 2 days. They took her off Plavix and aspirin due to subdural hematoma and blood on brain. Because of her age, her brain is smaller so she had no apparent issues. However, 2 days ago, she started having trouble speaking for a period of time. After about an hour, her speech was normal again. Is this the brain healing from trauma, or could it be a stroke? She doesn t seem to have any other symptoms.

Hi,

She had developed a subdural hematoma, which I guess wasn't drained, due to which she has developed these symptoms. Consult a neurosurgeon and do a repeat CT scan brain. If a hematoma is present, then they will drain it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
