How Can Swelling And Itching On The Middle Finger Be Treated?
i was at a store returning an item and i had a push pin needle that the receipt was on and i forgot so when i got the bag back i crumpled the bag and that needle stabbed right through middle finger underneath. within seconds it swole became itchy which has now since calmed down its been about 40 min ago, but top of finger swole finger was red, blood has pooled....should i be concerned. i came home and rinsed with peroxide. swelling has gone down maybe 5-10%.
From your explanation it looks like soft tissue injury with the pin needle leading to inflammation and pooling of blood seems to be due to hematoma formation that is due to spilling of blood from small torn blood vessels and accumulation of blood in soft tissues..
It is generally harmless and gradually resolves on its own..
For now you should continue doing cool compresses or ice packs over it.. Apply antiseptic ointment to avoid infection.. Protect it from getting bumped or injured...
If there is pain then you can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
In case if there is no improvement consult an Emergency room and get checked..
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora, Dentist
