How Can Swelling And Numbness In The Ankle Be Treated?

I went to get up and did not know that my foot was sleeping, and when I stood up my ankle went out on me and twisted back. I have slight swelling in the ankle part. I am also experiencing some numbness and tingling that is going into calf. I can still bare weight still but I m feeling slight pain in the Achilles?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The swelling would occur as part of the body inflammatory's response to trauma and it can last usually up to 2 weeks, rarely up to 6 weeks. The numbness would be due to mild trauma to the nerves in this area but this would resolve on its own. The use of anti inflammatory pain medication would help with the swelling, like Naproxen, Ibuprofen, and Cataflam.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
