How Can Swelling And Pain In The Knee Be Treated?

My left knee has been bothering me for several months. My family doctor had a sonogram, or something similar done, along with an xray done. The results showed an inflamed MCL (called ragged) and pain reliever along with less activity for a while was called for going forward. This really started 18 months ago but the instructions started about 7 months ago. I wear a brace or sleeve when being active and use heat and cold to allow me to manage things. Overall though, the knee is not better. It is swollen compared to my right one and I really have to work at walking normal . Medication wise, I am taking Lisinopril and Protonix. I take a vitamin supplement (One A Day 50+) and allergy medication (Zyrtec, Allegra, and Claritin on an alternating basis. Nasonex and Claritin as well). My mother had arthritis and even had her knees replaced. I want my knee to feel better. Can you give some questions to answer so I can describe things better to my doctor? I think that is where I fail the most! Thanks

Hello,

As a first line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist you can consult an orthopedician and plan for an MRI scan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
