Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having trouble with both my legs....I stand for hours and having a lot of swelling from knees down on both legs and very painful....my mom has a history of peripheral vascular disease...I am diabetic and also have factor five blood clotting disorder....even with rest and elevating my legs the swelling and pain is not getting better
Pain & swelling in the knee is due to inflammation in the ligaments, tendons, cartilage or meniscus. It can also be due to excess fluid retention in the knee joint.
You are having symptoms of claudication (pain & fatigue in the legs while walking) which is indicative of PVD. Diabetes, smoking, High blood pressure & high cholesterol trigger PVD.
Get Physically examined, get investigations [Doppler USG, MRA (Magnetic resonance angiography)], CTA, ABI done to get evaluated for the degree & the severity of PVD from which your are suffering.
In the meantime control your blood sugar, stay away from addictions, exercise to maintain an optimum level of blood pressure, eat healthy, take adequate sleep, stay away from anxiety/stress & tensions. Get treated at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Nupur K
