Hello and Welcome to 'Ask a Doctor' services,
I have reviewed you query and am concerned that you may be reaching for complicated solutions when easy ones have not been tried yet.
My advice to you is to decrease the sodium in your diet to 1500 mg/day if over 50 and 2300 mg if under age 50 to reduce swelling. Assure adequate, but not excessive, fluid intake of 8 glasses per day. Periodically put your feet up during the day and increase the potassium in your diet from fresh fruits and vegetables.
If you decide on hormones, I suggest bioidentical
hormone therapy. Bioidentical pellet therapy offers a more consistent approach to the management of symptoms and the hormones are derived from plants. It is different than the roller coaster effects often achieved with regular
premarin.
A
hysterectomy is drastic and unless there is a history of cancer and you have had
dysplasia or other precancerous symptoms I see no reason to be that drastic.
I hope my advice has been helpful.
Warm Regards,
Kathy Shattler, BS, MS, RDN
