Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been in the hospital twice for these issues and the swelling has still not subsided: swollen feet, toes and ankles; purple and red toes, achilles, now toes aren t as red but are discolored; cellulitis on right foot going up ankle, now better; shooting pains in right foot; toes feel like they re broken then when feel a little better are extremely sore. Can t hardly walk..in extreme pain. Doctors gave several days of IV with vanclymicine and rosepherine and Lasisks to reduce fluid and eliminate toxin.
Is your husband a Diabetic ? If so, it is very important to 'Offload', the involved right foot. This means, he should strictly avoid weight-bearing on the foot till complete resolution of inflammation. He can be ambulant with a 'Walker'. Only then would the antibiotics help in faster resolution of the inflammation. It is also important that to ovoid the swelling and help healing, he should keep the foot raised on a pillow while in bed and while sitting, should keep the right foot elevated on another chair. These procedures if followed properly, will help resolve the inflammation, discoloration and pain much faster.
