How Can Swelling In The Left Foot Be Treated?

Walked 3 or four miles on Thursday. Had on very comfortable shoes, no blisters. Easy Spirit slip ons. Wear them daily. Feet were somewhat swollen Thursday eve. But not unusual since we were taking five hours to get home after walking slowly all day. (Was at a flea market) The ground was not uneven and actually soft in a few areas. Come Friday morning, I awoke to a somewhat disclolored left foot. Only the left foot. There are times it is swollen. The foot has a slightly tender place on the top of that foot where swelling is. I do not remember falling over anything or hurting it in any way. I honestly do not know what is wrong with this foot. Any ideas. I am 69 , weigh more than I should, stand 5 2 tall.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your foot pain could be due to overuse injury of prolonged walking. Also your excess weight produce additional stress on joints. Take rest, reduce stress on your foot, put ice on it and take analgesics for pain relief. If the pain doesn't relieve after few days you may have to take an X-ray of foot to rule out stress fracture.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Palleti Sujith Kumar
