How Can Swelling In The Toes And Ankle Be Treated?

Hello, I have two issues happening at the moment. 1. I had a slip and fall on memorial day weekend. When I fell I came down hard on my right knee and my left hip (on my butt), since than my right foot has been hurting. It feels like I am stepping on a pad but when I look nothing is at the bottom of my foot just beneath the toes. It is swollen and numb between my big toes and the toes next to it, my ankle is hurting and I have some discomfort running up the outside of my leg from my ankle. 2. I have a pain under my right rib cage usually after I eat. The pain feels like it is running up to my right side of my neck. ????

It is possible that the fall you sustained has caused a fracture to the bones of your big toe and second toe. This could be the reason of the pain and swelling. The ankle ligaments could have sprained, and possibly slightly torn. You do need to rule out a fracture at the ankle joint also. An X Ray of the right foot, AP, lateral and oblique views should be done. In case of any doubt, a C.T scan of the foot and ankle can diagnose a fracture. If an X Ray is definitely not showing a fracture, then for soft tissue injury including ankle ligament tear, an MRI of the foot and ankle is the best investigation. In the meantime, the most important treatment you must do is to give absolute rest to your right foot. It would be good if you could use a 'Walker' and be ambulant using your good left foot, without weight-bearing on the right foot. You should consult a Podiatric surgeon or and Orthopedic surgeon for the management. Regarding the right rib cage pain, an X Ray will find out if you have sustained a rib fracture or not. Doctor can then advise you on the management.
