How Can Swelling On The Toes Be Treated?

My 4th & 5th left toes are still swollen after surgery performed on Dec 15, 2017. Any suggestions as to how to reduce the swelling? I/ve been back to the doctor multiple times to no avail. He just says come back in 30 days. There is mild sporadic pain involved. Thanks Lynn Gorman Bakos YYYY@YYYY

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are few possibilities for Swelling and painful toes. However, you can benefit from the following:-
1- Avoid wearing tight shoes.
2- Take over the counter analgesics such as Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen. You can also apply topical drugs to relieve the pain and inflammation.
3- Put your foot in a cold path every 3 hours.
4- Treatment of the cause such as bacterial infection, Arthritis, or gout.
5- Do clinical and laboratory assessment in the nearest medical center including X-ray, blood tests, rheumatoid tests, and routine investigations.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Take care.
