How Can Swollen Tonsils With Discoloration And Pain Be Treated?

One side of my tonsilles is swollen with white spots and a large round black/purple spot almost resembling a bruise. I went to my family doctor this morning but she just refered me to an ENT. It s really painful to swallow and eat, should I go to the ER?

Do not worry,
I feel, you can try these methods to get rid of the symptoms for three to five days before going to ent specialist.
I assuming you to be an adolescent, would suggest:
1. Gargle with Luke warm water with salt( a glass of water with a pinch of salt} twice daily. ( early morning and before going to bed)
2. Drink plenty of warm water, lemon juice (sweet and salt),
3. Avoid spicy, oil fried foods and take semi solid foods.
4. analgesics like acelofenac three times daily with 8 hours interval
5. antibiotics like amoxycillin 250mg three times daily with 8 hours interval
6. multivitamin like zincovit, becosules, once daily.
I am sure you should feel much better and improve .
If symptoms worsen ion 2nd day, you can consult an ent specialist.

Hi

Welcome to Healthcaremagic forum

You seem to be suffering from Acute follicular tonsillitis. Consult your doctor for further evaluation and management.

Meanwhile you can try the following:
1. Drink plenty of warm water
2. OTC pain relievers will be very beneficial
3. Use povidone iodine throat spray or gargles to relieve the inflammation and the pain.
4. Avoid chilled food or beverages/ smoking/alcohol/coffee, if any

Wish you good health.

Regards
