How Can Syphilis Be Treated?

My husband was diagnosed with syphilis and he says it must be old before he met me, so 18 years ago. Is that possible and if so are our children infected as well? Another thing is that he has psoriasis as well, so is it possible that he got syphilis from a wet towel or Toilette seat? This is a very difficult situation for me please help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand but have you been thinking that he may have a viral infection? I can tell you that antibiotics do nothing on viral infections, also fever may continue up to 1 week on viral infection. But after 3 days you must have your child rechecked at your GP so, he can evaluate the situation again. Meantime continue Ibuprofen for temperature and pain, give him lots of fruit juice and let him eat what he likes more.

All the best.
