Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I may have Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome. I had a talus Type III or Type IV fracture dislocation...doctor said it was the worst one so I guess that means a type IV. I have had AVN with it and tibiotalar and subtalar arthritis secondary to that. Recently, I have pains on the inner side of my ankle like where the arch is. The pain is sometimes a burning sensation or a sensation like someone is hitting it with a hammer. I am a preschool teacher and seldom sit down in an eight hour day. By the time I get home, I can barely walk. I worry about collapse as my foot is bone on bone and doctor said that my foot is nonfunctional. Should I contact my orthopedist to get an earlier appointment as it is getting worse? I have an appointment in the spring to see him. I was involved in a car accident in August of 2000 just so you know.

Depending on how the pain interacts with your living, the treatment depends. The first thing you can do is be careful with your weight, physiotherapy and orthopedic shoes help as well, these are non-invasive treatment so you could evitate as long as you can surgical treatment. Painkillers like Ibuprofen may help. An earlier appointment with your orthopedist would be the smartest choice.
