Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am now 31 years old, and I am a doctor. I would like to know from a specialist if I have Testosterone deficiency. I had a late puberty (older than 15 years old). I still have sparse facial and body hair (I have no beard). I have mild gynecomastia. I am not obese, but rather slim. Weight and height are within normal limits. Libido is low. I suffer from (at least) moderate depression. I have significant forgetfulness and difficulty finding words. Energy is low. Penis and testicles are normal in size. I tested my Testosterone before and the level was 22 ng/ml (normal range in that lab was 10-58 in men). This Testosterone level was almost three years ago (when I was 28) and it was the highest amonth other two (the rest I believe were about 18). I also tested my prolactin which was normal. I would like to know if this level is low for my age, and if I have relative Testosterone deficiency. I also would like to ask about GnRH treatment in this case (i do not prefer taking external testosterone).

Hi,
The minimum normal level of testosterone at your age is 250 nano gm/dilution. Obviously, you have hypogonadism.

How Can Testosterone Deficiency Be Diagnosed?
Hi, The minimum normal level of testosterone at your age is 250 nano gm/dilution. Obviously, you have hypogonadism. The gonadotropin-releasing hormone needs to be estimated and if it is deficient you would be benefitted with GnRH treatment. Please consult an endocrinologist. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
