How Can The Appetite Of A 5-month-old Baby Be Improved?

Hello doctor, my 5 months baby is not feeding properly. He only sucks breast milk for 1 or 2 minutes and than refuses. Again 1/2an hour he again cries. If I gave formula milk he refuses and cryed. How can I increase his appetite. His weight gain is 300 gm per month. Birth at 2.8kg and now 5.4 kg.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First of all there is an issue to find out the cause of less appetite before treating it. Development milestones according to the current weight at 5 months are satisfactory.

Check for proper digestion and regular bowel movements, playfulness of the child, if everything is fine means baby is getting enough nutrients and have satiety.

If not can give carminative enzymes which are best for this age group.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
