How Can Throat Ache After Removal Of Tonsils Be Treated?

I had my tonsils removed Friday. I have very little pain. But the stitches are bothering me. I felt sick today and vomited, I went to see my surgeon and he removed a large loop of suture that was hanging down my throat and the nausea got better. But there is one more piece now! These are dissolvable stitches. The doctor said everything is healing well. Is there a way to make them dissolve faster? They seem to dissolve on one side and just hand down my throat.

I had gone through your medical history and understood your concerns. I had seen some patients with similar complaints in my clinic.

Post surgery pain is usually considered as a normal part of the recovery process following any surgery. Generally this pain can be controlled by taking pre-operative non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In your case throat pain is common after tonsillectomy. This will be relieved gradually with healing process.
Coming to your nausea and vomiting, these complaints occur in some patients who are more sensitive to foreign body. Suturing material act as foreign body till they get dissolved.
Your throat pain and vomiting can relieved by following things:
1. Use NSAID drugs
2. drink ice water and take ice creams
3. avoid spicy food
4. suture will dissolve in 10 days and vomiting will be relieved
