How Can Throat Congestion Be Treated?

Good morning Dr. What medication can i use to cure my throat which feels like i have sputum around and at times it does affect my way speech by lowering my voice tune. And also how can i deal the issue of vocal codes so that i speak clearly,sound without feeling every time like clearing my voice.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of throat congestion which seems to be due to sore throat (viral or bacterial), post nasal drip, granular pharyngitis and acid reflux. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles several times a day, keep your head elevated while sleeping. You should avoid eating spicy and heavy food and reduce intake of dairy products and avoid smoking. You should consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like swab test, blood tests, CT scan and physical examination with laryngoscope . Doctor may prescribe antibacterial or anti viral depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants , diphenhydramine and expectorants .
