Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a throat condition, it feels like I have flem in it but I cannot cough it up. I went to an ear, nose and throat doctor and he suggest acid reflux, and put me on a diet and acid reduction meds (Pepcid). I am still experiencing the same feeling in my throat. It has been suggested that it was allergy, so I have been on Allegra-D.
You have symptoms of throat congestion which seems to be due to a sore throat (viral or bacterial), granular pharyngitis and could be due to acid reflux. Need not to worry. I would suggest you do warm saline gargles several times a day. You should keep your head elevated while sleeping. You should consult ENT specialist for proper examination. The doctor may order a test like a swab test, blood tests, CT scan and physical examination with a laryngoscope. The doctor may prescribe antibacterial or antiviral depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants. Also give an additional course of diphenhydramine and expectorants as well. Till then avoid eating spicy and heavy food and reduce intake of dairy products and avoid smoking.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
