Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes, my son went to the doctors last Friday and was told he had an infection of the lymph node, my son thought he maybe had strep cause his throat was red and hurt, but it wasn t that. he is on an antibiotic (Azithromycin tablets), he has one more day of taking it, but he is complaining of his throat really hurting bad and I see on the other side of the throat that he has a white pocket back in the throat. What else can he do, I did tell him to try gargling with warm salt water. Why wouldn t the antibiotic be helping? He is supposed to go back to the doctors next week, but I think I will be calling him tomorrow morning. Could you give me any advise? Thank You
He is having acute pharyngitis like a throat infection. For suspected streptococcus infection he has been given azithromycin tablet. Compete for the course of it for five days. If no improvement than it can be influenza-like throat viral flu for which throat swab can be taken for further work up. Oseltamivir was given if severity increased and flu positive. Until then strong decongestant like phenylephrine or very low dose steroid, betamethasone can be prescribed for five days. Drink lots of warm water. Give him one tsp turmeric powder with milk daily. Consult a physician for examination and get a prescription.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
