Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
HI I come home from overseas back in 2003 and had slight hearing problems they told me in 2005 that I needed hearing aids. At the time I didn t have the money to get them and still don t. Last year in April I was attacked from behind protecting my wife from a fight we weren t even involved in and during the fight I had my left maxila bone broken they told me I didn t need surgery. Sometime after the fight the hearing in my left ear got worse. Noticed it was a little bit more difficult to hear out of an when ever loud sounds went through the left ear it would cause my head to spin to the point that it knocked me off my feet a few times. The past week it hasn t been like that and noticed it s a lot harder to hear out of. Kind of like im trying to listen through ear plugs
Tinnitus is not a disease in itself but it is a symptom that indicates that there is some underlying illness. I would suggest you consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like audiometry, x-ray MRI can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.
In case if ringing does not resolve then you can be advised medicines like Tricyclic Anti-depressant like Amitryptiline, anti-anxiety medication like Alprazolam, as well as Multivitamin supplements can be advised.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
