Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is taking valproic acid and depakote for epilepsy and has begun suffering tremors. His seizures have subsided but the tremors are so bad he can barely feed himself or walk. Is there something that can be done to help the seizures? Thank you, Nancy Rhoades YYYY@YYYY
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Tremors is a recognized side effect of valproic acid, so this has started after the drug and there is no other obvious cause. It looks like it is because of the drug. In such cases the drug needs to be changed , we have a lot other options to control seizures , so you can talk to your doctor. If the tremors are teasing, and he sees that there is no other cause for it, he may change the drug.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
