Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have mild to moderate Ulcerative Colitis. I don t seem to be able to tolerate Canasa (mesalamine), or Uceris, or sulfasalazine. My Gastroenterologist doesn t want to go to Humira as he thinks my condition is not severe enough. I get stomach pains and then have to rush to the bathroom. Do you think a change of diet would help stop the bloody discharge and explosive bathroom visits. I am female 69years old and other than this annoying disease I m healthy and in good shape (for my age). Suzanne
However, your doctor is very right. Humera is reserved for severe cases and cases which don't respond to other therapies. Diet have a role in controlling the disease.
If you can't tolerate sulphasalazine group we try other immune suppressants like Azathioprine before jumping to Humera.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
