Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My grandson (14) is in Payton Manning hospital they say diagnosis is Ulcerative Pan colitis. Nothing is working Remicaide, Entiviyo now they are saying they are going to try a drug that is used in chemotheraphy not sure of spelling Mexeltrestate to keep the immune system from attacking his gut and then Sulfasalazine to help take edge off. What are these two drugs and the correct spellings then I can look them up and see side effects.
first you should know that ulcerative colitis is type of inflammatory bowel disease and also in a form of colitis result commonly from immune disturbance... treatment may begin with medical drugs then may need surgery but should be confirmtory diagnosed as ulcerative colitis
proper drugs if the condition is as it is then it may not be the ulcerative colitis medical treatment with some drugs as immunosuppressive drugs that reduce immunity and pantobrazole and omebrazole may lead to reduce the inflammation, but cannot be cured permanently these immunosuppressive drugs that had prescribed for your grandson have severe side effects as recurrent infection because of impaired immunity but if the specialist indicate them you should follow steps of treatment........and surgical operation may be indicated in most cases
wish your grandson healthy life
