How Can Urinary Tract Infection Be Treated?

Hi, I m a guy. I get urinary tract infections. My doctor recommended AZO last time. I only took one dose before, but I still have the package (but not the box with the instructions). It s maximum strength. How often can I take it while waiting for my appointment?

Hello,

AZO (Phenazopyridine) is actually a dye that works as a 'urinary analgesic" commonly used to relieve symptoms caused by irritation of the urinary tract such as pain, burning, and the feeling of needing to urinate urgently or frequently.

It is taken orally usually three times daily after meals or as directed by your doctor. It's not an antibiotic so to treat urinary tract infection your doctor will prescribe an appropriate antibiotic based on the report of culture and sensitivity test of the urine sample.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
