Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I literally popped a vocal cord about ten years ago, and abused it horribly while it was trying to heal. I lost about an octave off the top of what was an amazingly high male singing voice. Is there any hope for getting my upper range back? I m 49, which doesn t help, but my voice is still very high, about Kansas singer s range.
No worries, you can visit a laryngologist and see a voice therapist. Injury or damage to the vocal cords is indicated by hoarseness of the voice for more than 2 weeks, throat pain or discomfort with voice use and chronic vocal fatigue.
Get physically examine, early detection will help in a better cure. Your vocal cords will be examined for any growth (laryngeal videostroboscopy), it can be treated by either medication or surgery depending upon the pathology. You may have to go through voice therapy to reverse the tissue damage. Stay at voice rest if required so that your vocal systems return and reverse to the better.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
