How Can Vomiting And Diarrhea Be Treated?

At what point should somebody see a doctor for vomiting and diarrhea? This has been going on for my boyfriend since Wednesday night. He cannot keep food inside of him and has barely eaten anything since Wednesday. He is drinking Gatorade. If he does eat, he seems to throw up about 6-8 hours after.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It seems your friend is suffering from acute Gastroenteritis and he should get himself checked as soon as possible as he is not able to keep anything down and this will eventually lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance in the body.

It is also not advisable for him to drink Gatorade as it will further aggravate his situation. He needs IV fluid replacement and administration of antiemetic to control his vomiting, and for that, he may require admission in a hospital.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma Amman
