Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my son is 10 days old and formula fed. He spits up a lot and it's milky yellow in color. He's having enough wet and poopy diapers but seems so much sleepier than my other 3 babies. He eats 1-1.5 oz every 2-3 hours during the day but only gets up once during the night. No fevers. I was group B pos and delivered too quickly for him to get effectively treated. Should we be concerned enough to take him to the ER? His weight is the same as it was upon discharge. He sees his primary physician on Tuesday and was at the clinic yesterday for a weight check. I was told to just monitor him.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As you have already taken an opinion from a doctor, even then, going by the age of the child [10 days] an initial consultation with a Pediatrician or second opinion is of utmost importance since vomiting could possibly be a sign of dehydration.
PS: In first few months, vomiting could be due to overfeeding or faulty feeding for which mother is advised to burp the baby in upright position and avoid overfeeding and if you think it could be the cause then give:
- Sugar water, between milk feeds - Gripe water: 1/2 tablespoon thrice daily - Syrup perinorm: 10 drops thrice daily [but only after consulting the treating child specialist].
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Munish Sood
