Angiography will demonstrate anatomical obstruction as blockage , while thalium scan study reveals whether the obstruction is causing angina or not and also whether there is viable heart cells distal to blockage . This is especially useful when we have to take decision of treatment of blockage either with stent or with surgery .
Now a days we have better options like intravascular ultrasound or FFR technology to guide is in management of blockages .

Angiography is an invasive test. If one is prepared to go for surgical remedy, angiogram test is a must. Otherwise there are non invasive tests giving more detailed report about your heart such AS STRESS THALLIUM OR CT ANGIO or even you can check your EF% with 2D Echo.
