An elevated GGT level suggests that something is damaging the liver though the actual cause can't be ruled out simply by seeing its elevated level. Actually the elevated levels may be due to liver diseases, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis, but they may also be due to other conditions, such as congestive
heart failure, diabetes, or
pancreatitis. They may also be caused by
alcohol abuse or use of drugs that are toxic to the liver.
A high GGT level can help to rule out
bone disease.But till the time you visit any gastro physician
you can start doing lifestyle modification (decreased alcohol use, smoking, obesity)
Appropriate nutrition/nutritional support should be done. You can also consider using
pentoxifylline or prednisone, sillymarin.
