How Can Wheezing While Suffering From Asthmatic Bronchitis Be Treated?

My name is Mary and I was diagnosed with asthma bronchitis yesterday. My symptoms been going for three days now. The doctor prescribed me, along with my inhalers more frequently, a cough medicine that won t be in till Monday or Tuesday. I was at a friends place tonight until it was late and cold. Which of course made my symptoms worse. Right now my symptoms are clear runny nose especially when I wheeze. My wheezing has gotten worse and once in a while with white/yellow mucus. My lungs burn when I cough/wheeze. It hurts my chest when I swollow liquids and the doctor told me to keep hydrated. My head hurts a lot especially when I cough. My cough, more frequently than yesterday, is very deep and with that burns my lungs more and longer. I don t smoke and stay away from people who do. I don t know what to do or what I have. Please help

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It seems you have a common cold proceeding to sinus involvement & bronchitis.

Not taking prescribed medication in time & probably not inhaling the spray properly (so that the fume enters to lungs to affect) periodically exposure to cold have exaggerated your symptoms. When the condition remains long-standing & especially yellow secretions start.... may increase the wheezing ... (now doctor may add an antibiotic after physical assessment.)

The chest burning is partially due to esophagal & partly lung inflammation. At home, you can-
-learn to use the inhaler properly.
- start with the cough syrup
- start inhaling vapor/gargling with hot saline
-drink a lot of warm water. Eat a light and non-spicy, non-oily nourishing food. Avoid allergen, sour or cold things. Revisit doctor if no relief in 24 hours.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
