How Does Microdox DT (doxycycline Monohydrate) Help With Aneurism ?
My wife has been prescribed Microdox DT (doxycycline monohydrate) to prevent progress of her aneurism. This is an antibiotic, so I wonder how it acts in this case? Grateful if you have any views - I see no vascular sugeon amongst the specialists. regards Colin Bedwell
Hi, I am a Vascular Surgeon. Aneurysms arise due to chronic inflammatory processes through some factors called matrix metalloproteinases or MMPs. Doxycycline is a known inhibitor of these MMPs and thus slows the growth or decreases the size of aneurysms. Do let me know if you have any more queries about the aneurysm. You can send me a direct query by visiting my profile page or asking a query in 'Ask a specialist' section of the website. Take care, Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India
