How Does A Doctor Determine If An FNA Or Open Biopsy Should Be Done For A Swollen Lymph Node?
hello, my right lymph node is swollen and my white and red blood cells have come back normal. I was negative for strep and I have no symptoms other than some fluid behind the ear. I was ordered a biopsy and was wondering how a doctor determines if they re doing and FNA or an open biopsy? I can t remember if she said it was a centimeter big or an inch. But it is very large and can be seen without me lifting my chin. I don t like needles so I m just trying to prepare my mind and scaredy cat self. Thank you so much and have a good rest of your night.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
In our clinic we do puncture of lymph nodes for every lymph node that doesn't seem to be inflammatory. Then according to cytopuncture we decide if is needed biopsy or not.
Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
