Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Does Alcohol Consumption During Pregnancy Affect The Growing Foetus?
I think I experienced implantation pain last Saturday night. If that s the case I am now in the third week of pregnancy, having conceived on June 7th. On Sunday night (one day after implantation) I had one glass of saki and one glass of red wine. On Wednesday night (four days after implantation) I had two glasses of red wine. The alcohol was consumed with food on both occasions. Is this really bad? I ve been reading about embryonic development and how the embryo is far more sensitive to alcohol than the foetus - especially in weeks 3 - 6 of pregnancy. I m worried about it - please offer some advice?
Alcohol must be avoided in pregnancy. Otherwise, it will lead to a lethal condition called fetal alcohol syndrome which might cause congenital anomalies to the baby.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
