How Does De-sensitization Help When Allergic To Plavix?

Last week my husband had what we feel was an allergic reaction to Plavix. A clartitin took away the reactions. I called an Allergy and Asthma Center to get him tested to make sure it was an allergic reaction. They are going to do something called de-sensitizing him so he can take the drug. His Neurologist, feel he HAS to be on Plavix. Is this de-sensitizing safe? and what is it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
De-sensitization in allergy means the patient is given the substance (allergen) that he is allergic to, (mostly injected) starting from small doses and gradually increased. This way the body builds immunity to the allergen to which the patient is allergic.
It is a relatively safe procedure and everything is done in controlled, supervised conditions with treatment fro any adverse even keeping in hand.
Hope this answer helps, Thank you.
