Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...hi my son whos is exactly 2 months old right now is suffering from bad cough. After trying some medication which have not resulted in any relief, i am now told to take him for nebulization. how does this help
Cough may be caused by many reasons - secretions / sputum in airways, wheezing / obstruction of airway or airway irritation as in flu- the cause can be found out after directly examining him. If there is sputum in chest, antibiotics will help. If it is caused by wheezing or airway obstruction, nebulization will help. Nebulization causes relaxation of constricted airways, relieving cough.
In flu and viral infections, it may take 5-7 days for cough to disappear. If he is afebrile, playful, feeding well and cough is not disturbing his sleep much, you need not worry, just wait for few days. Cough suppressants and antihistamines are better avoided in this age.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
