How Early Is Cleft Lip And Palate Surgery Performed After A Child's Birth?

We have confirmed our unborn son has a cleft lip & palate. From the research my wife and I have done, most stated the operation for the cleft lip is done from 3-6 mos. We have an appt to meet w/ a surgeon that performs the surgery much sooner than the norm. What are the risks (if any) to performing the cleft lip surgery sooner than the norm (3-6 mos)?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if your unborn son has a cleft palate and lip then the time duration of surgery varied in both conditions..

Most commonly cleft lip repair is done in the early age like between 6 week to 12 week after birth and it will help in prevention of further deformation and the growth will occur with age..

In case of cleft palate the repair surgery is done during 9 month to one year of age so that the palate grows and expands and take appropriate shape by this time..

If it is performed at this age child will also not suffer from speech defects..
In case if your child is bone otherwise healthy with no complications and proper measures of anaesthesia and surgery are taken there is hopefully no complications.
