How Early Should Rabies Injection Be Taken Post Dog S Bite?
Hello there,i was bitten by my dog(not vaccinated) its been 13 days now,the wound was treated on the same day by a local physician and i was only given some drugs and antibiotic drugs too. But since on the 9th day the site of the injury has become itchy and swollen just around where the band aid was applied so i had to complain and i was taken to the hospital on the 11th day and i was given some drugs to use and i took an anti-tertanus injection on the same day. Please i need an advice if i need advice on what to do next, and please is it too late to take a rabies injection?
Post-dog bite treatment consists of local treatment of the wound including injection tetanus toxoid followed by anti rabies vaccines injections should be initiated IMMEDIATELY. However, if your pet dog remains healthy throughout 13 days then there is no need to take anti rabies vaccines.
Other wise if the animal shows signs and symptoms suggestive of rabies then you must take 4 doses of rabies vaccine - one dose right away, and additional doses on the 3rd, 7th, and 14th days. Swelling and itching around the wound is suggestive of infection which should be treated with appropriate oral antibiotics after visiting your doctor.
Hope this answers your query.
