How Effective Is Diotroxin In Managing Depression And Hypothyroidism ?

What does the T3 do. I ve been booked off for 4 weeks for Hashimoto thyroiditis and medication changed to diotroxin. However they want to add antidepressants as I m apparently depressed. Want to avoid taking antidepressants if I can. Will Diotroxin bring my levels back to normal so that I can feel better and be less irritable.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Ditroxin is used to treat the symptoms of hypothyroidism. It will bring your levels of T3 and T4 to normal with the titration of dose of Ditroxin. Depression is a known symptom of hypothyroidism. You are advised to take anti-depressive medication as advised by your doctor to ease out your symptoms. Anti-depressive medication may be discontinued once the symptoms reduce depending on the advice of your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
