How Effective Is Nuedexta In Treatment Of Dementia?

My mother was diagnosed with Dementia/Alzheimer s disease a few years ago and has steadily gone downhill. She is currently in a nursing home and on several medications for dementia, anxiety and other symptoms. The doctor has suggested starting my mom on Nuedexta because she has screaming and crying episodes frequently. What do you think of the drug and how can I make an informed decision?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

There seems no direct role of Nuedexta on the condition of dementia / Alzheimer's disease. However, it may be effective in controlling / relieving the symptoms of sudden outbursts of coughing, laughing, screaming and crying etc. due to its properties of having Pseudo Bulbar Affects (PBA) on the brain.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
