How Effective Is Spironolactone In Preventing Hair Loss?

I was prescribed spironolactone primarly for hair loss as well as for essentil htpertension....I was looking thru druf info on aldactone and saw that it can cause baldness? HELP!!! testing shows my hair loss is consistent with hereditary type YYYY@YYYY

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, yes spironolactone can cause abnormal hair distribution as the pattern of hair growth if any may not be coherent with natural pattern so usin it as a treatment is not recommended.

Minoxidol on other hand can interfere with your hypertension though it may be effective for hair growth.

I suggest take both entities separately. Control Hypertension with good anti hypertensive drugs including ACE inhibitors or calcium channel blockers and for hair loss which is genetic mainly should be reviewed by a cosmetic surgeon and hair implantation may be a safe and effective method in your case.
